A Brand-NEW Quilt Mystery for a New Year!

Just in time for the New Year, a Brand-NEW Patriotic Mystery is just about to start!  Sandy Berg, Designer of has just finished creating another wonderful patriotic quilt design that can be sewn and quilted into a Quilt of Valor.  The following information includes ALL the necessary details for those who choose to participate in this Patriotic Quilt Mystery:

2017 QOV Mystery Event
February 8 through March 8, 2017

The 2017 QOV Mystery Event will be starting again in a few weeks. This will be the 6th annual event - last year there were 114 people who signed up to participate in the event. I hope that participation will increase again this year. This year there is only going to be one quilt pattern - in past years there have been multiple patterns that were offered. Even though there is only one pattern this year, I hope you will join in and make the quilt. It is a quilt that is modern looking (but not too modern, for you traditionalists!), contains elements appropriate to honoring military service, and has simple construction. I think it is a quilt that any veteran or service personnel would be honored to have.

The event will begin February 8, 2017. The pattern is broken into 5 steps so the event will run for 5 weeks. The final solution will be ready for participants on March 8, 2017. Fabric Requirements will be sent out on February 3, 2017, so you will have some time to look for your fabrics. As in the past, nobody will be monitoring your progress - work at your own speed. This means that there is no pressure on anyone. It is simply another fun way to create a Quilt of Valor.

This event is only for participation via email; no instructions will be sent out through the regular mail. If, however, you know someone who wants to participate but does not use a computer, feel free to print this and share it with them for use as a Quilt of Valor only – the patterns are copyrighted, so please respect this.

Every participant will be responsible for creating this QOV from their own fabrics. When finished, it will be the quilter's responsibility to see that the quilt is completed with quilting, backing, batting, and binding. Help with this process is available through the QOV website ( or a local QOV group. When the QOV is complete the participant is expected to donate their quilt to the Quilt of Valor effort. You can do this in one of several ways: award the quilt to a veteran that you know; donate the quilt to a local QOV group; donate through the national QOV website so that it may be awarded somewhere else.

If you love a good mystery, won’t you join us in this fun effort to create more of these quilts of comfort and healing? To join the fun, send your name, email address, and the state you live in (for my information only) to Sandy Berg at indicating your participation. And thank you for helping out with the QOV effort!

Sandy continues with her email correspondence with us:

Fabric requirements will be sent to participants on February 3, 2017, and the first set of instructions will be sent out February 8, so participants will have some time to find their fabrics. If you wish to participate, please review the attached and follow the instructions to sign up. If you know of someone who might be interested but did not receive this information, feel free to share with them. Any and all QOVers are welcome to enjoy.

A Very Special QOV Gift...

...from an even more special Quilts of Valor Volunteer, Laura, and QOVF Group Leader of the Quilters with a Heart Group from Harker Heights, Texas.  Just received this wonderful Thank You card/note along with a stunning Pearl Harbor lapel pin, which commemorates the 75th Anniversary of that fateful day at Pearl and our country's history.

You may remember, we quilted/bound/labeled and shipped a Quilt of Valor, at the request of Laura, who was travelling to Hawaii to celebrate her wedding anniversary during the 75th Pearl Harbor Anniversary, and also decided to honor and cover our WW II Veterans from ALL over the US with Quilts of Valor while there.  We wanted at least one of our Illinois WW II Veterans covered.  With the assistance of the QOV Stars Group - who provided this gorgeous quilt top that we bordered out and quilted, we were able to fulfill our Quilt of Valor goal.

Labeled prior to shipping
And even though this QOV was shipped in time to travel to Pearl Harbor w/Laura, due to unforeseen circumstances, it was NOT delivered to her in time.  However, Laura is committed to having this Quilt of Valor awarded to a WW II recipient, and we know she'll do her very best to keep that commitment.

In spite of this Quilt of Valor not being awarded at the Pearl Harbor Commemorative Event, Laura still felt our East Central IL QOV Group deserved a Thank You for our QOV efforts, and included this wonderful 75th Anniversary collectible lapel pin...Thank YOU, Laura, it's so special - we will treasure this gift, ALWAYS!

Thank YOU, Laura, for ALL your efforts in honoring and covering our WW II Veterans with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor during our country's 75th Commemorative Pearl Harbor Ceremonies.
