Two Quilts of Valor off to one of our NEW Volunteer Longarmers...

Recently, we received an email from a very generous Professional Long arm quilter, offering her quilting services.  After a few brief emails, this Volunteer shared some of her history of long arm quilting, including the fact she is a Blue Ribbon/Best of Show long arm quilter:

Theresa w/Blue Ribbons, Best of Show quilt - Beautiful!
How fortunate we are to have a long arm quilter of this caliber to offer to quilt our Quilts of Valor!

Once we had all the great quilting info about Theresa, we quickly sent out the word to EVERY one of our East Central IL QOV Group to bring their best QOV tops to our most recent monthly meeting so we could choose which QOV quilt tops to send to Theresa for quilting.

Here's what we chose:

Cindy's Lady Liberty - can hardly wait to see what Theresa comes up with for this one!

QOV Stars
Theresa has generously Volunteered to quilt two (2) Quilts of Valor for us each month - we plan to keep her busy!  Thank YOU, Theresa!!

Can hardly wait to see these Quilts of Valor quilted out, can you?  We'll post updates when we receive them, so check back for future pics.

Our Stringent Need for Adherence to our Standards of Excellence w/Updates

The Mission of the Quilts of Valor® Foundation:  "To cover Service Members and Veterans touched by war, with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor®".

Our QOVF Destinations Coordinator, Deanna Bryce, explains in her wonderful, thorough, patient way, the necessity for strict adherence to our Standards of Excellence following this brief message included below.

She also shares our most recent urgent need for additional Quilts of Valor to fulfill monthly standing requests from our military hospitals - both stateside and overseas, totaling a minimum of 179 QOVs needed each and every month.  In the month of May alone, we were only able to fulfill 76 of those Quilts of Valor requests, denying many of our wounded warriors the Quilts of Valor they so desperately need and deserve.

Many of our Groups choose to only award their quilts locally, which is such a wonderful act of kindness and generosity to honor and cover our local area Service Members and Veterans with Quilts of Valor.  Additionally, some of our QOVF State Coordinators have been hard hit due to the presence of multiple military bases in their areas.  According to our QOVF Assistant Executive Director, Sharon Ledbetter, "These states are more than one year out from being able to fill their requests.  By committing QOV's through Destinations, the Destinations Coordinator, Deanna Bryce and I are able to pair excess quilts received with those SCs in most urgent need."

That's why we need your help.  Please consider sharing any extra Quilts of Valor you and/or your Group or quilt guild may have, and choose to create additional QOVs throughout the year to contribute each month through the Foundation: http://www.qovf.org/req-destination.html

And one last thing - prior to generously sending your precious Quilts of Valor to any destinations, Please read what our QOVF Destination Coordinator, Deanna Bryce has to say about adhering to our QOV Standards of Excellence (below).

We wish to take this opportunity to Thank each one of you for your continuing commitment to honor and cover our Service Members and Veterans, whom have given so much, with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor...Thank YOU!

UPDATE 6/12/2015: Beginning August 1, 2015, East Central IL QOV will begin sending one (1) Quilt of Valor per month through our QOVF Destination Coordinator, Deanna Bryce to help fulfill the ongoing requests our Foundations receives each month...Won't you join us?

“Covering our Service Members and Veterans touched by war with Quilts of Valor®…”

Dear Group Leaders:

I am pleased to have the opportunity to communicate directly with you.  My name is Deanna Bryce and I am the Destinations Coordinator for QOVF.  You know from Sharon Ledbetter’s email last week that we have had a problem meeting our quilt requests from our continuing destinations around the nation.

A recent email helped me focus on the fact that the reason we are receiving fewer Destination Requests may be that the form has been changed and more information is required.

The most important and required information needed on the revised form is WIDTH and LENGTH.  Quilt descriptions and pictures are greatly appreciated but optional.
The reason for the form change was due to an influx of undersized quilts that were not appropriate for the facilities where they were being assigned.  Our Points of Contact (POC’s) have full time jobs at their respective facilities and volunteer to award QOV’s because they see firsthand each quilt’s positive and healing effect.  Having to sort through quilts to find one appropriate to award takes them away from their primary duties of caring for our wounded.  A few minutes taken to measure the quilts and put that information on the form saves time and stress for our POC’s and results in our wounded being awarded their ever so needed quilts.

There are facilities and groups that welcome undersized quilts.  We need to know their dimensions to assign them.  As our system will not accept any size smaller than 55 x 65 my work around is to have quilters input that size under Width and Length and then show the actual quilt size in NOTES.

With your help the beautiful quilts that you have made with love and care for our service members and veterans will be appropriately awarded.

Thank you for helping to cover those touched by war,
Deanna

East Central IL QOV is a QOVF Volunteer Member Group in good standing with the National Quilts of Valor® Foundation.  Our only focus is in creating and awarding comforting and healing Quilts of Valor to honor and cover our deserving Service Members and Veterans.  Established in August, 2014, when the National QOVF Volunteer Membership Program first launched, East Central IL QOV has had the privilege to create and award over 75 Quilts of Valor to area Service Members and Veterans throughout the 39 counties it serves.
The Group also answers the call to honor and cover our wounded warriors recovering from battlefield injuries in Landstuhl, Germany, contributes Quilts of Valor to be awarded to our committed Service Members who have volunteered to escort our fallen Warriors home to their final resting place from Port Mortuary, Delaware, and continues to ship Quilts of Valor all over the United States whenever a call of need comes through the National Quilts of Valor® Foundation.

Deb Lindley, the Founder of East Central IL QOV, and her longarm quilting machine she affectionately refers to as Miss Betty, have been quilting Quilts of Valor since 2010.  In 2012 they became official longarm quilting Volunteers through the National Quilts of Valor® Foundation longarm quilting service.

Then in 2014, several opportunities arose with Quilts of Valor®, including starting the first Clark County  4-H Quilts of Valor Special Interest Group, establishing the East Central Illinois Quilts of Valor Group, and accepting the position of East Central Illinois QOV State Coordinator.  Needless to say, it’s been a busy and productive few years with Quilts of Valor for Deb, the amazing East Central IL QOV Volunteer Members, and ‘Miss Betty’, resulting in LOTS of Quilts Of Valor quilts for our deserving Service Members and Veterans.
