"Moving Forward" Series Message #6
A Message from Our Treasurer Joyce Lundrigan

Dear Volunteers,

As your national treasurer, I'm going to cut right to the chase.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, we are legally required to report all donations made in the name of the Quilts of Valor Foundation. The QOVF executive staff and board of directors have spent a year working hard to put a structure in place, as well as policies and procedures to follow, for all of our volunteers, our donors, and other interested constituents. We have been advised to notify all of our volunteers of the legal requirements to which they (and we) must adhere.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation has only one EIN number. All funds collected in the name of Quilts of Valor Foundation must flow through our national account.

If we all don't follow IRS rules and regulations, QOVF could be found in violation and lose its non-profit status. Also, should someone report volunteers accepting donations or grants on behalf of the Quilts of Valor Foundation and not turning them in, they could personally be held liable.

In my opinion, we have all worked too long and too hard to allow either of the above situations to happen. We have always valued our reputation and the pureness of our mission. We trust that everyone in the QOVF community will help us to protect both.

Many exciting things are planned for our members and supporters. Check Susan's Moving Forward extra page in the upcoming November issue of Threads to find out what is in store.

Joyce Lundrigan

  1. Deb...I think it is important to realize that what is being stated is what has always been. QOVF has always been in compliance with the IRS requirements of a non profit. They have always met their financial obligations and to my knowledge have never defaulted on any commitments or financial responsibility. We will soon be losing Joyce as she retires her position with QOVF...a true loss. It is reassuring that as this great organization moves forward it takes with it a great history of financial responsibility. later...Les...
