The Mission of the Quilts of Valor® Foundation: "To cover Service Members and Veterans touched by war, with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor®".
Folks, Quilts of Valor nominations/requests are coming in faster than we can process them. Currently in East Central Illinois alone, we have a 6-month waiting list and it will soon be a 12 month waiting list IF we don't get some additional help Fast! To my knowledge, yours truly is the ONLY Volunteer long arm quilter in my immediate county area, and my waiting list for Quilts of Valor to be quilted has now gone to nine months as of this morning. My biggest concern is that those deserving WW II Veterans will not get covered with their Quilts of Valor in time. Sadly, my own dear Father-In-Law, 'Dick', a WW II Veteran, falls into this category.
I just got off the phone with another generous quilting soul who is frantically trying to get three (3) local WW II Veterans covered as their health rapidly deteriorates. Please - we need Volunteers to help us cover these very deserving Veterans with Quilts of Valor as soon as possible, before it's too late!
If you can quilt Quilts of Valor quilt tops, create or donate patriotic quilt tops to be quilted as Quilts of Valor, (Please see QOV Standards of Excellence for specific requirements and sizes, generally a 60" x 80" finished patriotic quilt top will suffice: http://eastcentralilqov.blogspot.com/2014/08/quilts-of-valor-standards-of-excellence.html, or donate patriotic fabrics to create tops and/or for backings, donate your time to sew blocks or backs together, donate monetarily for the purchase of Quilts of Valor materials, We Need YOU!
