Quilts of Valor Standards of Excellence

Many folks stop and ask me, "What is a Quilt of Valor?  What makes a Quilt of Valor so different from another quilt - like a quilt for a Veteran or even a standard charity quilt?"  What great questions!  And now, Thanks to our Quilts of Valor Staff and Board of Directors, we now have our most recent Quilts of Valor Standards of Excellence I'm happy to refer to.

 QOVF.org

The Mission of the Quilts of Valor® Foundation:  "To cover Service Members and Veterans touched by war, with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor®".

Quilts of Valor Standards of Excellence:

  • A Quilt of Valor is awarded to a Service Member or Veteran touched by war to comfort, heal, and honor their service and sacrifice for our country.  A Quilt of Valor is a 'lifetime award'.
  • Every Quilt of Valor should reflect the best possible workmanship and materials consistent with the Quilts of Valor Foundation's core value of Promoting Excellence.  Please follow this direct link to our www.QOVF.org corporate site for additional Standards of Excellence for creating a genuine Quilt of Valor:  http://www.qovf.org/quilters-questions/basic-requirements/
  • Each Quilt of Valor must be properly labeled to include the words, "Quilt of Valor", the name of the Quilt of Valor recipient and each individual and/or group who helped create the Quilt of Valor, including the quilter - whether by hand or machine or longarmed, the binder, the state(s) the creators reside, in addition to the name(s) of the QOV Presenter(s) and the date the Quilt of Valor was awarded.  Full names of each creator are now acceptable and the FULL name of the Quilt of Valor Recipient is highly recommended.
  • A journal documenting the creation of the Quilt of Valor, along with a note, card or letter may be presented to the Quilt of Valor Recipient with the awarded QOV.
  • Every awarded Quilt of Valor is to be reported to the Quilts of Valor Foundation via the www.QOVF.org website to ensure each Quilt of Valor can be accounted for and counted.  (Quilts of Valor State Coordinators will be happy to assist you and your group/guild in reporting any Quilts of Valor.  Please contact your local State Coordinator for assistance or follow this direct link to our corporate site to report an awarded Quilt of Valor: http://www.qovf.org/report-awarded-qovs/ .)

Please NOTE:  The Quilts of Valor Foundation does not provide quilts to organizations for permanent public display or to serve as bed covers for hospital beds...Thank You.

And there you have it.  As has been plainly exhibited here, a Quilt of Valor is truly a very special 'lifetime award' presented to our most deserving Military Service Members and Veterans to comfort and honor their service and sacrifice for our country.

Please contact your local Quilts of Valor State Coordinator or follow this direct link to our National Quilts of Valor website: http://www.qovf.org/request-qov/ to nominate one of our Service Members or Veterans to be awarded a Quilt of Valor.
